Georgia Sees 97% Increase in New Business Applications Compared to 2019

Newly published research from CardConnect reveals which US states are home to the most entrepreneurially-minded people in the country, and Georgia has been recognised.

Appearing among the top positions across four of four league tables considered as part of the research, some key findings about Georgia include:

– Around 1 in 30 people made a new business application this year, placing them 3rd nationwide. This was determined by cross referencing official figures for new business applications made between Sept’ 2020 and Aug’ 2021 with local population data. Across the US, the average is every 1 in 63 people made a new business application in the same time period.

– 97% increase in new business applications compared to 2019 (pre-COVID vs now), placing them 2nd nationwide. This was determined by comparing business application made in 2019 to those made in the year up until Aug’ 2021. Across the US, the average increase in business applications when comparing figures pre-pandemic to now is +44%.

– Relative to other states searching for the same thing, people in Georgia have the 4th highest interest in starting a business with no money. This was determined by analyzing Google Trends data for the phrase “start a business with no money”

– Relative to other states searching for the same thing, people in Georgia have the 8th highest interest in starting an online business. This was determined by analyzing Google Trends data for the phrase “start an online business”

Commenting on the findings of the research, a spokesperson at CardConnect said: “We found that nearly all US states have seen marked increases in new business applications when comparing figures since COVID-19, which is incredibly refreshing to see given the impact it has had on lives and businesses the world over. The so-called ‘Great Resignation’ that has lately been widely reported in the news may help to explain this significant change. While many of the four million or so people who have been quitting their jobs every month of late may be seeking alternative permanent employment, the new business application numbers suggest that thousands of others are seeking to launch their own ventures, so to help prospective entrepreneurs be aware of the costs involved in doing this, we’ve created a comprehensive and free-to-use start-up cost calculator.
