AMSC Culminates its 50th Anniversary Celebration in Partnership with Open Hand Atlanta with a Special “Give Back to the Community” Event
ATLANTA, GA – December 2024 – As the culmination of its year-long 50th anniversary celebration, Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC) marked the occasion with a special event to honor its rich legacy and demonstrate its ongoing commitment to community service. The event, titled AMSC’s 50th Anniversary Celebration: Give Back to the Community, was held in partnership with Open Hand, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing nutritious meals to individuals facing hunger and chronic illness.
Throughout 2024, AMSC has celebrated its history of growth, educational excellence, and dedication to public service. As the anniversary year comes to a close, the college chose to focus on giving back to the community, reinforcing its core values of social responsibility, service, and engagement.
The highlight of the celebration was AMSC’s participation in Open Hand’s Meal Delivery Program. Faculty, staff, and students of the college volunteered to pack and deliver meals to individuals and families throughout the Atlanta area. The collaboration aimed to bring holiday cheer and much-needed support to as many families as possible during this season of giving.
AMSC President Dr. Ingrid Thompson-Sellers was also present, personally delivering meals to recipients. “It was a humbling experience to be included for a day in the impactful work of the Open Hand Atlanta organization,” said Dr. Thompson-Sellers. “As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, this service event reminds us of how fortunate most of us are, the importance of community, and how we can make a difference—especially during the holiday season.”
The partnership between AMSC and Open Hand reflects the college’s continued dedication to making a positive, lasting impact in the community. By volunteering their time and resources, AMSC faculty, staff, and students were able to provide vital support to those in need, embodying the Trailblazer spirit of service that has been a cornerstone of the institution since its founding.
AMSC looks forward to continuing its work with Open Hand and other community organizations in the years ahead, furthering its mission of education, service, and leadership.
