Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will begin the South Parking Deck Renewal Project Sunday, May 1. On April 20, portions of levels one, two and three of the South deck will close.
“The construction of new North and South decks and the additional ATL West deck and the ParkATL Select lot on Sullivan Road will allow ATL to accommodate more passenger volume and significantly improve Airport access,” said Airport Assistant General Manager of Planning and Development Tom Nissalke. “The South deck renewal project is simply the first step in that process.”
This is the start of a multiyear Domestic Terminal parking deck renewal and replacement project. To extend the decks’ utility prior to their eventual replacement, the Department of Aviation will be performing a structural renewal project. The work will commence in the South Deck and be limited to the half of the deck nearer the Domestic Terminal (the inner half) on the lower three levels. The top level of the deck (Level 4) will remain operational. All four levels of the deck’s outer half will remain open for parking. Approximately 2,500 stalls will be closed at any given time.
The renewal of the South deck will begin May 1 and complete in January 2023.
“As the world’s busiest and most efficient airport, we are used to performing extensive work in a dynamic environment,” said Airport Assistant General Manager of Commercial Revenue Jai Ferrell. “We are prepared to address this challenge and remind our passengers that we will have over 31,000 available parking spaces at the Airport during this project. We will have a robust communications plan to inform the public about the project and provide parking options.”
Airport officials have created an outreach plan designed to ensure customers know where to go and what to do. They are also updating the ATLNext website to provide up-to-date traffic and parking information.
